Harvest 2016

In early october the grape harvest 2016 in Podere Sapaio came to an end with the harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s been an excellent year, begun with an early budding, followed by a typical spring trend with a classic succession of sunny and rainy days.

The summer period has been practically without rainfall but thanks to spring rains and the resulting water supplies there has been no water stress for the vines. On the contrary the dry and airy climate has favored an excellent ripening of the grapes which have developed exceptional aromatic and polyphenolic qualities. The harvest has started a few days early than average, we have harvested the Merlot on the first of september and the Cabernet Franc after that.

Half september the rains came which allowed to postpone the harvest of the late vines like Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the cellar the wines appear rich and impressive but extremely fresh, thanks to the strong acidity that distinguishes this year wines, giving them balance, a vibrant freshness and balancing the exuberant structure.

We have great expectations for this harvest at Podere Sapaio.
